I’m five. I’m in the boat with my father.My first time out in the marshes.
The water scares me.It’s thick and deep.
It holds dark secrets.They’re trappedin the folds of the earth.
My face. I cannot see my facereflected in the water.
But I can see my eyesshining in my father’s.
