The SALT CITY contemporary circus workshop will conclude tonight at the Auditorium of the ‘I Care’ Foundation in fucecchio, with a presentation of the work structured in two events open to all: at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. The workshop, structured as a creative residency, involved four intensive days of work by young circus artists from all over Italy and beyond.
The intense creative research of the performers working with firenza guidi focused on salt: a common and ordinary material but one capable of enclosing and preserving objects and memories of the past, leaving them intact, ready to find a new and unexpected place in the present. From a training and creative perspective, salt becomes the means and metaphor through which to unearth an event, an identity, something we have left behind and rediscover in its most original and uncontaminated form. Guidi accompanied the performers on a journey through their own memories, fears and joys, which also led to a strong personal investment on the part of the young artists from Cirense who participated in the workshop.
The workshop had the merit of combining, for the first time, research on contemporary circus with research on the voice, which for many dancers or circus performers is a difficult area to tackle: working on the voice is scary, but guidi’s training method makes it simple and natural.
SALT CITY is part of the Permanent School for Performer Training. The well-rounded actor conceived by guidi faces new challenges and engages with different disciplines, always with a view to expressive research and creation.
