Intensive creative writing workshop conceived and led by Firenza Guidi
This time, the creative writing workshop at frantoio will focus on the most unpredictable, overwhelming and catastrophic feeling known to human beings: love. Firenza Guidi’s input will be inspired by one of the first forms of widely distributed literature, the 16th-century treatises on the art of love and the education of girls and boys.
The aim is to create an ironic reinterpretation of this genre and, together with the workshop participants, to produce a fabric made up of the most diverse types of narrative that have love as their central theme, through the discovery and poignant, philosophical, light-hearted and profound recounting of the situations of madness, frustration, joy and change that it can generate. A fascinating journey through the delicacy and joy of a feeling destined to turn all our lives upside down.
MICROCOSMI began as a personal journey that, starting with a creative input, traverses the microcosm of each person’s life to arrive at writing: through firenza guidi’s thematic and emotional impulses, participants are encouraged to draw out their own internal, original and sometimes unheard voice. This is why openness is the founding principle of MICROCOSMI: openness to anyone who wants to write, even if they have never written before; openness to the exploration of multiple writing styles, from monologue to fiction, from poetry to rap, from stream of consciousness to documentary text, from novella to drama; openness to a new and different path, detached from the fixed rules of theoretical methodology, to find in practice an immediate and spontaneous way to words that are a transcription of each person’s most authentic and individual sound. The intensive format of MICROCOSMI, which takes place over ten hours in a single day, aims to create an experience that maintains the same vital energy for a long time and increases the participants’ awareness and textual research through full immersion in the world of writing.
The workshop will culminate at the frantoio at 9.30 pm, in the usual evening entitled MICROFONI APERTI (OPEN MICROPHONES), an initiative to give a voice to those who love to write, where participants and anyone else can read their creative pieces in front of those who love to listen.
Firenza Guidi conceived the first creative writing workshop in 2001. Director, author and director of Elan Frantoio, Firenza Guidi has been producing theatre shows and films inspired by events, memories and phenomena related to the local and universal sphere for fifteen years. Elan Frantoio’s activities are based on the philosophy of staging new dramas: new because they are unpublished in terms of texts and scenography, or new because they belong to contemporary authors who have never been represented in our country.
The next Frantoio production will be in January 2012. On Holocaust Remembrance Day, ECLISSI will be staged, a performance conceived and directed by Firenza Guidi and based on the stories of the first 10 female prisoners sent to the Sonderbau, or “Special House”, the first brothel established in Buchenwald and intended for use by prisoners of the Nazi concentration camp as an incentive for productivity.
