L’Ultimo Ballo (The Last Dance), inspired by Riccardo Cardellicchio’s story Il Gran Fatto di Quaresima (The Great Event of Lent), marks the centenary of the dramatic event and tells the story of the dance hall that burned down in Via de’ Macchiaioli in Fucecchio on the first night of Lent in 1906. Fourteen people died in the tragedy, which was reported in the national and international press. In the evocative setting of Poggio Salamartano in Fucecchio, firenza guidi will bring to life the moments leading up to the tragedy in her unmistakably cinematic style of theatre, which is image, physical text and spoken text. A narrator and a cast of young and not-so-young actors will accompany us minute by minute into the heart of the evening. From joy, celebration, ambushes and arguments, from the game of glances and innocence, scenes of life will turn, for many, into flames, mourning and tears.
