Making people laugh is a special alchemy of innocence, generosity of spirit of observation, seduction, mischief, love, self-irony, dignity, life experience, vulnerability, stupidity, creativity, tenderness and who knows what else. You have a better chance of becoming irresistibly, seductively funny when you manage to make space inside yourself, without judging yourself or others.
This workshop on comic mechanisms focuses in particular on the total creation of a character who borrows heavily from the individual but develops, through a series of exercises and creative steps, a truly new personality. Unlike what happens in stand-up comedy, the character created will have its own costume and a well-rounded individuality. In five days, participants will create a performative identity that will face the world with its own name and surname.
For many actors, the work of creating a character from scratch is the artistic journey of a lifetime. For others, it is training to be carried out in preparation for shows such as a monologue or a solo performance. Part of the process will also involve testing the character in different everyday situations, using a sort of candid camera. LA BERTA is a completely new performance course and a pilot project in the discovery of new practical approaches and methodological theories in firenza guidi’s work in training performers.
Comic mechanisms is one of firenza guidi’s best-known workshops and one of the hallmarks of her method of training performers and her work as a director at an international level.
Director, author and director of Elan Frantoio, firenza guidi has been creating performances, theatre shows and films all over the world for years. Much of her work is inspired by facts, memories and phenomena related to local and universal history. Through the writer-director’s working methodology, Elan Frantoio’s activities are based on the philosophy of creating and staging new dramas: new because they are unpublished in terms of texts and scenography, or new because they offer adaptations of original classics in their interpretation, or because they belong to contemporary authors never before represented in our country.
