The final performance of the 18th International School of Performance draws inspiration from the universe of the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo and his cult novel Pedro Páramo: a world which, though distant, bears the mark of a primal, blood-soaked and magical essence in which to see ourselves reflected, a shared matrix which, evoked almost by chance, manifests itself and speaks to us in a universal language that belongs to us too. A fusion of the real and the unreal, where magic is tangible, a daily occurrence; a world that attracts and unsettles us, shatters certainties, unsettles our thoughts: roots are this too; they grant us no respite, they stir the surface, send tremors, destabilise, do not allow us to remain relaxed and, finally, tear open the earth and allow death to emerge, to whisper to us; an ever-living presence, which laughs, sits beside us and urges us towards new actions and creations.
