La Buca Dei Maiali

A parched landscape. The dry riverbed. It is not the night that brings disaster, but the day. A hole-that-becomes-a-pit stands in stark contrast to the sun-drenched, vast expanse of the wheat fields, where ants, hawks, toads and hedgehogs gaze, oblivious, at the pigs’ hole… Alongside them are the eyes of a child who, at the age of seven, finds himself in the harsh and illogical world of ‘grown-ups’. It is through his eyes that we, as absent witnesses, will reinterpret life and death, the human condition and the absurdity of war, the scorched present and the memory that burns and fades like a summer bonfire.
