Presentation of the theater/circus workshop and performance inspired by F. García Lorca’s unfinished work of the same name
The Frantoio circus workshop brings its creation to the stage: the title of the performance, born from the workshop’s creative impulses, *The Dreams of My Cousin Aurelia*, echoes that of Federico García Lorca’s final play, a single act left unfinished due to the author’s untimely death.
On this occasion, the circus arts workshop merges with the theatrical genre of the Comedy of Manners, an original and irreverent dramatic form based on the satire of the customs and affectations typical of a certain social class, ridiculing its dynamics and stereotypes. The comedy of manners originated in ancient Greece with the plays of Menander, passed through Molière, and reached Oscar Wilde, who made it his signature style.
The work of Lorca—a very young author, an anti-fascist, a homosexual, and an enemy of the Franco regime that had him arrested and executed—provides the perfect setting for the staging not only of a comedy born from society’s petty obsessions, but of a show that blends theater and performance, creation, and circus skills to fully explore a world in which the performer is self-deprecating and subversive, entertaining and at the same time moving.
