A Journey into the Mind of an Autistic Boy
This project is a study that places diversity at the center of its exploration—not as something foreign that might frighten or lead to detachment or alienation, but as an element that fascinates and in which one can discover something unique and surprising. Diversity means encountering the new and the unknown; it means seeing the firm foundations that guide our existence suspended, the wavering of certainties. In this sense, it is easy to understand how diversity and engagement with it can lead to enrichment, adaptation, and a shift in relational strategies and conventional ways of thinking.
The performance aims to place the audience face-to-face with the unknown, with what is foreign to them and may even frighten them, leaving them feeling defenseless; yet this disorientation must give way to surprise, attention, engagement, and fascination. The goal of raising awareness is achieved through direct contact with a different world, which turns out to have its own rules, logic, perspectives, and boundaries; a world that is, in fact, not so different from the one each individual constructs around themselves.
The performance, premiered at the 2nd International Conference on Autism in San Miniato on March 29, 2012, is directed by Firenza Guidi and performed by Davide Salodini. Davide was born in Gavardo (Brescia) and grew up in Padenghe sul Garda; after completing his high school diploma in science, he decided to enroll in the Flic circus school in Turin. Thus began his circus journey, during which he was constantly accompanied by an 85-cm ball, taking him to Budapest, Hungary; to Auch, France, for the “Cirka” festival; and to Reus, Catalonia, where he participated in another group performance at the “Trapezi” festival. After finishing school, he trained on his own, first in Barcelona and then at Les Fratellini in Paris, before coming into contact with Firenza Guidi, with whom he began a collaboration in March 2012.
