At the Frantoio we talk about performance and not theatre. Why? This is because, unlike Theatre, the word Performance is still open, hybrid, it doesn’t have masters to emulate. It is a genre which borrows, contaminates and is contaminated. The performance steals and twists but always avoiding masks and crystallized canons descending from more than a century of proscenium theatre. We talk about site-specific locations and not spaces born for theatrical use. The creation becomes a series of dialogues between cultures, space, architecture, environment and contingent life situations.
