La Bocca del Ragno, a new play inspired by the figure of the Episcopessa: a woman, a nun, an administrator of souls and property, a militant, pure, combative and, above all, shrouded in mystery. The play delves into the (late) medieval world as a cosmos full of contradictions. A world with its eyes turned to heaven and yet, at the same time, materialistic and violent. A world attached to the fundamental values of the land and of belonging (be it to a religious order or to an art), and at the same time in a state of flux: a constant coming and going of soldiers, friars, merchants, vagabonds, artists and engineers, students, labourers, pilgrims and nuns, often travelling for months or even years. And then the brigands, the mercenaries, the vagabonds, the poor, the useless, the prostitutes and the pimps: worlds and underworlds, languages and streets full of charm and mystery, which, as is the case today, connect Fucecchio to a European and cosmopolitan reality. A world of clamour, incense and candles, with vivid colours and souls ready to burst forth, suddenly, from the gigantic and inscrutable skirt of the Episcopessa.
