Firenza Guidi opens a window onto the world of theatre and global creativity with her international school of performance, now in its twenty-first consecutive year. An opportunity for actors, performers, technicians and theatre production experts from all over the world to meet, share and create.
From 17 August, the team of artists and experts from various countries around the world will be joined by a group of young Italian and local talents for a two-week experience, during which participants will be able to explore the training techniques developed by firenza guidi over the last twenty years.
This year’s workshop is entitled BURN, and the creative input is provided by the novel “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury, perhaps the greatest science fiction author of the last century, who passed away in 2012. In his masterpiece, Bradbury describes a society made up of individuals who live without a past or a future, besieged by television, which is the only means of information allowed by the authorities.
Books are not only banned, but burned by a special team of firefighters, and those who own them are arrested. Bradbury offers a starting point to be explored at the training level and translated into various performative languages: theatre, performance, set design, costumes, soundtrack, texts.
The aim is to create the face of a future that possesses the body of the past. A simple, clean, essential future, an almost naive and nostalgic vision, cleansed of the technological excesses of the present: a future told through the struggle between a voracious and lobotomising society and the survival of the human species still capable of thinking, feeling and maintaining its own individuality. The theme offers new ideas both from a performance point of view and from the point of view of current affairs, the society in which we live and the points it has in common with the one imagined by Bradbury.
Il Frantoio, which throughout the year is home to a high-level permanent training school, with teachers from all over the world and a particular focus on young people and education, regains its international flavour during the summer season and BURN, maintaining its status as a place open to all but also capable of pursuing a path based on important and shared values.
