After a season that began with women and rebellion in the evocative show LE TREDICI ROSE (The Thirteen Roses), Firenza Guidi and Frantoio di Fucecchio continue their activities in the new year with a January dedicated to memory and multiculturalism and a programme full of unmissable events.
From 16 to 19 January, firenza guidi presents ROM_la voce che viene dal sangue (ROM_the voice that comes from blood), a singing workshop focused on the Gypsy vocal tradition. The Gypsy singing technique, unique, visceral and different from Western singing, will be the means through which participants can discover a new and unknown vocality, taking a journey within themselves that passes through their own voice. The creative process will take place through exercises and improvisations. Guidi has worked on researching and transmitting songs, and the workshop repertoire will delve into the most beautiful and rare songs that Gypsy singers have handed down for centuries, from generation to generation. As a product of the workshop’s creative process, in addition to the usual presentation of the work on Saturday 19 January, participants will also have the opportunity to record a CD.
Sunday 20 January will be the turn of MICROCOSMI 3_Il cimitero dei libri dimenticati (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books). This is the third edition of the Creative Writing workshop conceived and directed by firenza guidi, which will take place over a single day in a special location. Participants will have the opportunity to spend the workshop hours in a welcoming and evocative environment which, in addition to providing an ideal setting for writing and clearing the mind, will be present in the imagination of the day as a starting point for creative impulses and the production of texts. The creative writing workshop will end with a dinner event during which those who took part in the workshop will be able to read their work. Firenza Guidi and a special guest will also take part in the reading, enlivening the evening with readings and short performances.
Saturday 26 January sees the continuation of the five-year journey that takes spectators to the largest extermination camp in Nazi Germany: AUSCHWITZ will be staged at the Auditorium La Tinaia with a show open to the public at 6 p.m., preceded at 5 p.m. by a special event curated by Firenza Guidi: GUILTY, a reading/performance that represents the result of research strongly desired by the director, focusing on a different perception of memory: not on the events of the victims, but on the guilt of the perpetrators.
On Sunday 27 January, the Frantoio’s Permanent Company will move to the Mumeloc in Cerreto Guidi for a day full of performances that will inaugurate the exhibition “Porrajmos, altre tracce sul sentiero per Auschwitz” (Porrajmos, other traces on the path to Auschwitz). At 4.30 pm, Lisa Savini will perform BABY YAR, a concert/show directed by firenza guidi to commemorate the numerous massacres carried out by the Nazis in the Yar, the ravines found in the vicinity of many Ukrainian cities, while throughout the duration of the exhibition opening, visitors will be accompanied by IL MIO CANTO GYPSY, a choral concert of the most beautiful songs of the Gypsy tradition.
Firenza Guidi’s commitment to involving the younger generation in the themes of history and memory continues: throughout the month of January, both AUSCHWITZ and BABY YAR will be offered to schools in the Empolese-Valdelsa area and beyond in a special morning session. The frantoio offers a programme dedicated to every age group and every school requirement to ensure that pupils and teachers enjoy a fascinating experience that can complement the curriculum and bring history to life in an active way.
