In her now typical form of writing-in-performance, Firenza Guidi embarks on a journey in which multiple voices intersect – relentlessly – on the border between history and memory. The reading performance, which makes use of video images and music, is the reconstruction of an emotional fabric based on testimonies and historical documents, drawing inspiration from them to imagine other voices, lost, forgotten or never heard.
The voices, perhaps, of thousands of men and women who did not have the time, the desire or the opportunity to write, shout or whisper their stories. All these voices are the memory of the locusts. A vast, uncultivated field that is only apparently calm and dormant: in reality, it is teeming with memories that – like an invasion of locusts covered in quicksilver – devour it from within.
